Gender Sensitization Workshop In partnership with UNICEF
Centre for Social Research in collaboration with UNICEF and Labour Department, Kanpur conducted a three day TOT on gender sensitization, violence against women, child marriage and child labour.
The TOTs were conducted in three districts of Uttar Pradesh:
With the support of local NGOs and block officials, the trainings were facilitated with an objective to highlight the increasing rate of crimes against women and children in the respective areas. The sessions intended to provide guidelines and effective methodology to spread awareness on the efforts that can be taken to decrease the crime rate.

The three day training was structured in a way that the topics that were discussed seemed to be interlinked. Beginning with basic concepts of gender, impact of gender stereotyping followed by activities for a better understanding. The second day of the training focused on the key issue of Violence against Women, underlining various forms of violence that women have been facing at different stages of their lives. The last day of the training was mainly focused on the issues concerning children like child marriage and child labor. The trainers discussed the steps that are being taken up by civil society organizations as well as the society to put an end to the child related issues.
The TOTs were concluded with a pledge by all the participants, where they promised to break the boundaries that hold the movement of woman’s advancement. Additional reading material was handed over to the participants so that they can keep the information flow going and share it with maximum people.
Building an understanding on gender is the initial step that can be taken towards guaranteeing women empowerment. Along with this objective, this programme also intended to build up the capacities of the participants to call for a gender sensitized society and empower them enough to lead the movement to end Violence against Women.
