Closing Ceremony of 2nd Self Defence Winter Camp
The Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC), Delhi Police organised its 2nd Self Defence Winter Camp for 15 days in 5 areas of Delhi for young girls and boys. This initiative of SPUWAC was aimed at sensitising men and boys, and to empower women and girls of our country, to fight against increasing crimes against women. SPUWAC successfully trained approximately 2, 00,000 young girls and boys in 2015- 16 winter camp. Under this camp, Ms Pratishtha Arora and Ms Smriti Sharma from CSR facilitated two trainings on Gender Sensitisation, reaching out to about 950 boys directly.
The closing ceremony of the programme was organised on 8th January 2016 in Universal Public School, Preet Vihar, New Delhi. Shri B S Bassi, Commissioner of Police, along with Shri Robin Hibu, Shri Taj Hassan and Smt Varsha Sharma were the guests of honour. A small demonstration of key learnings from the camp was performed by the trained participants in front of the chief guests. The participants were also taught the 4 Mantras of Self-Empowerment, namely:
- Be Aware
- Be Prepared
- Be Alert
- Be Confident
Following this there was direct interaction of the trained participants with the Commissioner of Police on women’s issues and issues pertaining to police, and also sharing of experiences.
Ms. Pratishtha and Ms. Smriti described the experience as “Enriching” and said “This is a great initiative on the part of the SPUWAC and will definitely complement the work which CSR has been carrying out in the area of Gender Sensitization”.
