The International Women’s Day (observed on 8th March every year) represents an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women, while calling for greater equality. The theme for International Women’s Day 2015 is “Empowering Women, Empowering Humanity: Picture it!”
This year,Centre for Social Research (CSR)intended to mark the celebration of International Women’s Day by dedicating the entire month of March to women’s health. CSR identifies health as one of the most important concerns of a woman’swell-being. Health is of particular concern among women because, in many societies, they are disadvantaged by discrimination rooted in sociocultural factors.
Keeping this in mind, we organizedthree weekly health camps at our Crisis Intervention Centre located in SangamVihar. The aim was to generate awareness as well as facilitate diagnosis and treatment of health care issues, for the marginalized social group of the community.
The schedule of the medical camps was as follows:
8th March, 2015: Respiratory Problems, General Physician
13th March, 2015: Respiratory Problems and HIV Examination & Testing
20th March, 2015: Comprehensive Eye Examination and Testing
The Health Camp aimed to positively impact the lives of the community members, focusing on women and girls, by directly addressing their unique health concerns. Specialized consultant services by a Physician, Gynaecologist and Ophthalmologist were provided to the people free of cost. The doctors devoted their entire day to providing confidential, free and easily accessible medical consultation to all. They also helped in identifying and recommending treatment for various issues. A total of 238 community women availed the services offered in the three health camps.
We would sincerely like to thank all the doctors from Cipla, Aids Health Foundation and Hayat Mitra Eye Foundation, for their selfless service in contributing towards the well-being of the underprivileged women.
