On 20th December 2017, Centre for Social Research conducted a district level handball sports event at D.A.V. Public School (Riverside), Sarsehri Village, Ambala. The field level preparatory work including necessary permission to conduct the event at the DAV Public School from the School Principal and the District Sports authorities were undertaken during the last field mobilization work by the CSR team on 14th December 2017. There were four teams from the following schools participating in this competition: The Seva Samiti School, the Government School, Bakra Market, the Farooka Khalsa Senior Secondary School and the DAV Public School. The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour for the event were Mr. Balbir Singh, officiating District Sports Officer, Ambala-cum-Gymnastic Coach and Mr. Jitender Arora, Prinicpal, D.A.V. Public School, Sarsehri Village, Ambala.
The event commenced with the keynote address by Dr. Mansi Mishra, Head, Research Division, Centre for Social Research, explaining in details about the purpose of ‘Sport for Girls Project’ under the Beti Bachao Beti Padho programme. She encouraged the participants taking part in the competition to perform better. Later Mr. Balbir Singh, DSO Ambala motivated the participants wishing them best for their game. He encouraged and tried to pursue other students to actively participate in sports as well.
The competition consisted of two matches and a final match. The referees for the matches were Mrs. Kusum and Mr. Santosh Dhiwan and the scorers were Mr. Arvind and Mr. Raman. The prize was distributed among the participants by the Chief Guest, the Guest of Honour and Dr. Mishra.
The Farooka Khalsa Senior Secondary School was the winner and awarded with gold medals. The Government School, Bakra Market was second in position and was given silver medals while DAV Public School came third and was awarded with bronze medals. The scholarships were given to Ms. Leeja and Ms. Anjali for their hard work and dedication for this sport.
