On 13th December 2017, Centre for Social Research conducted a district level gymnastics sports event at War Hero Memorial Stadium, Ambala Cantt. The CSR team reached the Stadium at around 1 p.m. The event was successfully organized with the help of Mr. Balbir Singh (Gymnastic Coach-cum-Officiating DSO) and Mr. Satpal Singh (Gymnastic Coach). The chief guest for the competition was Mr Shailender Khanna, District President, Gymanstic and Mr. Surinder Sehgal, Vice President, Gymnastics.
The event commenced with the keynote by Dr. Mansi Mishra, Head, research Division, Centre for Social Research, introducing the organization and explaining about the ‘Sport for Girls Project’ under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme. She emphasised the importance of encouraging children to take up sports, and thanked the parents present in the stadium for support their young daughters in pursuing sports and helping them participate in the competition. She then motivated and thanked the participants for showing interest in the competition. At the stadium there were senior girls (17-18 years) and under 8 & 10 years participating in Artistic and Rhythmic Round. The participants were ready dressed in their beautiful costumes.
The competition was judged by Priyanka, Ishu and Shivani who were senior level gymnasts. The competition began with Artistic Gymnastic round. In this round the participants performed short routines ranging from 30-90 seconds depicting the balance, strength, flexibility and control. The next round was conducted with the participants of the Rhythmic Gymnastics round, in which the individual performed combining ballet and gymnastics along with hoops, clubs and freehand.
Each participant performed with full confidence and enthusiasm in the competition. The following participants were awarded for their wonderful performance for Artistic gymnastics: Ishu Rana, Pooja, Nikita, Shivani, Nirmal and Kritika. For the Rhythmic Gymnastics, Shifali, Hanika Thapa, Shivani, Shabina, Priyanka, Heena, Ishu, Jhanvi and Palak received awards for their performance. The scholarship of two thousand rupees was awarded to Ms. Hanika Thapa and Ms. Ishu Rana for their hard work and dedication to the sports. Dr.Mishra honored both the Chief guests with mementos and thanked them for coming and encouraging the girls to participate in sports. Finally, the refreshments were distributed amongst the participants.
