On 12th December 2017, Centre for Social Research organised a sub-district level volleyball sports event for girls under the ‘Sports for Girls Project’ at Senior Secondary School, Kadipur, Gurugram district. The CSR team reached the school at 10am and four teams were ready to participate in the competition. Two teams (Team A & B) were from Government Senior Secondary School (Kadipur), Government Senior Secondary School (Rewari) and Bluebells School. The girls of the teams were very enthusiastic about the competition.
The event commenced with the keynote by Dr. Mansi Mishra, Head, Research Division, Centre for Social Research, introducing the organisation and explaining about the ‘Sport for Girls Project’ under the Beti Bachao Beti Padho Scheme. She also encouraging the teams to do heir warm up before their matches and requested the audience to motivate the teams by cheering. This was followed by a speech by the Chief Guest, Mr. Paras Ram, the District Sports Officer at Gurugram. He congratulated Dr. Mishra on helping the Beti Bachao Beti Padho Scheme be successful, by adding the component of Beti Khilao, and stressed the importance of sports in one’s life. He boosted the morale of the present teams and expressed his desire to see similar functions being organised at the Nehru Stadium, Gurugram in the near future.
All the teams participated energetically in all the matches conducted in the competition. The game was referred by Mrs. Nilam and Minakshi Saini (the volleyball coach). The audience was actively involved in the match. A lot of students stayed back to cheer the teams even after their classes were over. This also encouraged the team players to play the matches to the best of their abilities. The competition consisted of two matches and the final match which was held between Team -A Government Senior Secondary School (Kadipur) and Government Senior Secondary School (Rewari). The final match was extremely competitive and exciting, and all the players were commended for their performance.
Mr. Muniram, Principal of G.S.S.S. Kadipur, was present as a Guest of Honour to distribute the awards. The winning team of the sub-district level volleyball competition, Government Senior Secondary School, Kadipur, was awarded with a trophy and each player was given a gold medal. The runners up Team-B Government Senior Secondary School (Kadipur) were awarded with silver medal for their performance. The scholarship under this project was given to two well-performing players named Ms. Vandana and Ms. Pinki Kumari. The refreshments were distributed amongst the participants and volunteers. The event was very well organised with the help of Mrs. Meenakshi Saini, the volleyball coach. The success of this sub-district level sports competition is reflected in the fact that the CSR team noted two female students of Govt. Sr. Sec School, Kadipur coming up to Mrs. Minakshi Saini and requesting her to teach them volleyball too.
