Training for Trans Boundary Disaster Management in Saharsa

The Asia Foundation (TAF) – Trans Boundary Disaster Management Training in collaboration with the Centre for Social Research (CSR) is being conducted in Bihar and Nepal and the training conducted at Saharsa, Bihar from the 8th- 10th of April, 2017 was the first with the help of local partner GENVP. The observations regarding the training itself are tabulated below, however, the most remarkable observation was the atmosphere that was created merely by having a gathering of women, Elected Women Representatives (EWRs), who may never have been sought out before in any serious decision making despite the posts they occupy be it that of Sarpanch, Upsarpanch or Mukhiya.

The training itself went well with participants giving positive feedback and asking about the next handholding. 10 EWRs were identified from the 46 who attended who could be included in the Training of Trainers as they seemed the most receptive and vocal and knew how to put their point across effectively and more importantly, gave the impression that they were willing to work for the progress of their villages and would do their bit to work towards it.
