Tweeship Skill Camp – A one of a kind initiative

From 11th to 15th June 2018, our Media and Communications team hosted the very first #Tweeship #SkillCamp at our headquarters in Delhi. The 5 days internship had 8 interns from diverse backgrounds, and aimed to impart skills of Twitter, as well as using social media for social change, to these young people.

Day 1

All interns learned about the rules and tools of Twitter which comprised of creating tweets, using hashtags, tagging people, thread, DMs, creating moments and periscope. This session helped them to understand the basics of Twitter and how they can use Twitter for social good. On the first day, they had to summarize their day in one tweet. Day 2
The second day of TweeShip was about making videos and campaigns. The participants learnt the art of making videos through the application Quik.

The afternoon session revolved around campaigning on Twitter. Participants were informed about the tips and tricks of how to run a campaign on Twitter.

Day 3

On the third day there was a session on how to conduct a TweetChat which comprised of moderation, duration, time, who to select as a panelist, how to promote the Tweetchat, creation of graphics, and other components. Following this, there was a session on creating graphics via Powerpoint presentation, Corel, Photoshop, Publisher. The last session of the day was on the Twitter Safety Policies. As a part of the activity they also created videos on Safety policies. Below are the links to some of the videos created by them:

Day 4

The fourth day emphasized upon the execution of the learnings from the previous days. The interns conducted a Tweetchat on Safety of Women in online spaces.

Following this, the Tweeship participants were taken for a visit to the Twitter India office in Delhi, where they interacted with Ms Mahima Kaul, Head of Public Policy, Twitter India, and shared their experiences of Tweeship.

Day 5

On the last day of Tweeship, all participants presented their campaign ideas to CSR team followed which a round of feedback was given to individual participants. The themes of the campaign ideas were – Solo Travelling, Unpaid domestic and care work, Virginity Fraud, Working women, LGBTQ, Career counseling.

To conclude, TweeShip was a successful program with support of all the team members. We have also taken participants individual feedback which will help us to incorporate in the next phase of the program.
