Women have played a crucial role in water conservation and environmental protection. From rural areas to urban cities, women have been at the forefront of sustainable practices and community-led initiatives. We are proud to introduce 40 women environmentalists who are improving their communities:
- Alexandra Cousteau – Environmentalist and filmmaker who advocates for water conservation and protection.
- Neelima Mishra – Environmentalist and founder of the Uttarakhand Seva Nidhi, who focuses on conservation of natural resources and sustainable development.
- Vandana Shiva – Activist and scholar who focuses on sustainable agriculture and water conservation.
- Isatou Ceesay – Founder of the “One Plastic Bag” initiative that promotes recycling and environmental conservation.
- Kavita Kuruganti – Environmental activist who advocates for sustainable water management and conservation.
- Wangari Maathai – Environmentalist and activist who founded the Green Belt Movement, which focuses on reforestation and water conservation.
- Jill Hepp – Director of water initiatives at the World Wildlife Fund, who works to promote sustainable water management.
- Sandra Postel – Environmentalist and author who focuses on water conservation and sustainable agriculture.
- Sadhana Shrestha – Advocate for sustainable water management and women’s empowerment in Nepal.
- Emma Howard Boyd – Chair of the UK’s Environment Agency, who works to promote sustainable water management and conservation.
- Liz Thompson – Environmentalist and former Minister of Energy and Environment in Barbados, who advocates for sustainable water management and conservation.
- Sheila Watt-Cloutier – Environmentalist and human rights advocate who focuses on the impact of climate change on Arctic communities and water resources.

- Jane Goodall – Primatologist and conservationist who founded the Jane Goodall Institute to promote wildlife conservation and environmental education.
- Rachel Carson – Marine biologist and author who wrote the influential book “Silent Spring” and helped spark the modern environmental movement.
- Sylvia Earle – Marine biologist and oceanographer who founded the Sylvia Earle Alliance to promote ocean conservation and environmental education.
- Erin Brockovich – Environmental activist and consumer advocate who played a key role in a major legal case against a company that contaminated drinking water in a California town.
- Berta Cáceres – Environmental and indigenous rights activist who founded the National Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras.
- Lois Gibbs – Environmental activist and founder of the Center for Health, Environment and Justice, who played a key role in a campaign to clean up a toxic waste site in New York.
