Health Camp in Brahmpuri

Under the Samajik Suvidha Sangam program of the Delhi Government, the Gender Resource Centre of the Centre for Social Research conducted a health camp in Brahmpuri on 28th April, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.The camp was inaugurated by Haji Ishraq Khan, an MLA from Seelampur (AAP North East) and he was the chief guest of the event as well.

Other guests included Mahaveer Singh, S.H.O, New Usmanpur;Shikha Jain, AAP (Mahila Mukti Moorcha); and Asha Sharma, advocate from DLSA. The facilitators were Ahmed Nadeem (project coordinator), Renu Sharma (Community Mobilizer), Suman Lata (Community Mobilizer) and Jaishree (SHG Mobilizer).

The broad theme of the camp was ‘Orthopedic” and a linkage has been established with Dr Shroff Hospital, in this regard. There were a total of 212 beneficiaries of the health camp, who met with a number of specialists, including a gynecologist (55 beneficiaries), a physiotherapist (48 beneficiaries), pediatrician (40 beneficiaries) and general physician (69 beneficiaries). Ten of these cases were referred to nearby hospitals for further treatment. Proper counseling was done by the different doctors and IEC material was displayed properly. There was a separate counter for medicine distribution and this was handled by a trained pharmacist. A separate premise was given to gynecologist for check-up of female beneficiaries as per their need.

Overall, it can be said that the camp was a resounding success. One of the beneficiaries, Krishna Kumar, was open with his praise when he said “In this age where money precedes care, GRC and its team have set up an example that care always comes first. The team is a hope not only for the poor and needy but for all those people who need emotional guidance when a member of their family is in trouble.”
