District level Girls Kabaddi Match in Mahendragarh

CSR conducted a District Level Girls Kabaddi Match at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium, Mahendragarh, Haryana, on 15th February 2018 from 10:30 am to 2pm. The guests present at the event were City Magistrate Mr. Sunil Kumar and District Sports & Youth Affairs Officers Mr. Jai Singh Pilania. There were two participating teams, called Dhanota and Dhochana, each consisting of seven players. The Kabaddi Match was held on the second day of the two days sports event held by CSR in Mahendragarh, the first day of which was the volleyball competition. Only two teams participated, out of which Team Dhanota won the match.

Coach Dharampal Singh, a volleyball coach, helped us organize the Kabaddi match in Mahendragarh stadium. A few days before the sports event, Mr. Dharampal requested us to provide for the sports jerseys for the girls. Therefore, CSR provided the cost for the jerseys from Haryana Sports Centre; the jerseys were worn by the girls on the day of the match.

On the day of the Match, the City Magistrate, Mr. Sunil Kumar congratulated and rewarded both the teams with medals and certificates that were provided by CSR  He also handed out the scholarship cheques (sponsored by CSR) to ten girls – Pooja, Pooja, Priyanka, Manju, Mausam, Sapna, Dholi, Pooja, Pooja and Pooja.

Mr. Kumar went on to share a few words of wisdom with the participants; he reminded them of the increasing participation of women in sports from the state of Haryana and encouraged the girls to participate in sports for both mental and physical fitness. He advised them that though girls have to face greater challenges to excel in the field of sports, they should continue their fight to reach excellence.

Post the Kabaddi match we also got the opportunity to interact with other coaches present. For instance, coach Raj Kumar shared about his wife Mrs. Monika Mehta; Mrs. Mehta participated in the 2011 Commonwealth Games in Taekwondo and won the bronze medal. He was enthusiastic about our project “Sports for Girls “; both him and his wife are willing to assist us for our future endeavors in Mahendragarh District.
