As part of our Sports for Girls initiative, our team conducted a Sub District Level Girls Volleyball Match at Swami Vivekananda (S.V.N.) Senior Secondary School, Mehrampur, Haryana, on 14th February 2018 from 10:30 am to 2pm.
Prior to the event, on 13th February a short visit to the school was organized; where Dr. Manasi Mishra, the Head of the Research Department of CSR interacted with the Head Master Mr. Ramesh Yadav, and Director of the School Mrs. Renu Dhillo and the school Volleyball coach Mr. Naresh Pal. During the discussion, Mrs. Dhillo pointed out that most of the parents in Mehrampur do not support their girl’s participation in sports, which could affect the number of parents/guardian present at the volleyball event the following day. Post the interaction, it was also brought to our notice that the school did not receive any support to provide for the sports equipment. At the same time coach Naresh Pal raised his concern regarding the incapability to provide nutrition in terms of fruits and milk to the sports players of the school.
On 14th February, the guests present at the event were District Sports and Youth Affairs Officers Mr. Jai Singh Pilania, Mehrampur Sarpanch Mrs. Sunil Devi, Lecturer Bhagainder Kumar and Volleyball coach Dharampal Singh . The participants included forty girls; each team consisted of ten players. The team names are as follows – G.D.C Dhani Kirarod, Girls College Narnaul, S.V.N Mehrampur and Village Mehrampur, and three Volleyball matches were played. S.V.N.’s home team won the first position, second position was held by Girl’s College Narnaul, and third position was held by the team of Village Mehrampur. The first three teams were given gold, silver and bronze medals respectively. All the participants received certificates from CSR.
After the awarding of the medals to the top three teams, ten girls who played well and require socio-economic assistance were provided with a scholarship of rupees 2000 each. The scholarship recipients were; Vijeta, Poonam, Rinku, Khushi, Meena, Preeti, Monika, Suman, Deepika and Sahil.
After the completion of the volleyball match Mrs. Dhillo, shared her keenness to provide her assistance for the arrangement of the district level workshop and role model exchange in Mahendragarh in the near future. Additionally, in order to continue our future work under “Sports for Girls” a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Head Master of the school.
